FYI, we bought a 2010 Corolla LE for our son. Purchased it in Maryland, then drove it to Florida and finally Texas where he works. Almost all freeway miles at 65-70 mph. According to the multi-information display, it averaged 39.5 mpg. No hypermiling techniques were used. Tire pressures were factory recommended. Automatic transmission. In Consumer Reports' test, it averaged higher than the EPA official number.
