FYI, we bought a 2010 Corolla LE for our son. Purchased it in Maryland, then drove it to Florida and finally Texas where he works. Almost all freeway miles at 65-70 mph. According to the multi-information display, it averaged 39.5 mpg. No hypermiling techniques were used. Tire pressures were factory recommended. Automatic transmission. In Consumer Reports' test, it averaged higher than the EPA official number.

My general rule of thumb is 30% over highway EPA really isn't that hard to achieve with common sense & good driving.

...which engine? the 1.8L or the 2.4L engine?
...I have a 2009 Vibe with 1.8L and auto and get 36 mpg, the 2.4L would get less.
...only "enhancement" is an SGII.

MetroMPG did that test himself. It would be *really* neat this information was built into the EPA MPG test publication requirements.

I'm guessing ~45-50mpg based on the EPA data and personal experience.

...take note that the 2006 1.8L engine is NOT the same as the current 2009-2010 1.8L engine.
...there's a difference in both bore and stroke as well as fuel system, the 2009+ 1.8L engine has SIDI (Spark-Ignition Direct Injection) while the earlier 1.8L engine used MFI (multi-port Fuel Injection).
...check the specs!

That spike at 70 km/h is interesting. Is that where the overdrive would kick into high gear?
