Yes but;
If you designed the vehicle from the ground up, you could use the frame as compressed air tank. You could easily install safety valves and even crush zones which would deflate the tanks safely. You could have refilling stations in mountain passes, where the wind is sufficient to be a practical source, I can imagine a large wind turbine with a pressurized tower, huge volume and the air works towards the towers rigidity. We are already running lots of propane powered vehicles with tanks pressurized to 250 psi. We are also safely transporting huge numbers of containers of O2 and explosive gases at 3,000psi.
It does not need to be efficient if it is cost effective. Folks the most important thing is not MPG it is Miles per unit volume of pollution.
We are surrounded by energy sources that are not being developed because big business cannot keep control of them. Bio fuels are a complete anathema to them because you can make them in your back yard.
Gotta wake up folks and start to learn and teach how to get off the oil.
