By today's standards, that is light! Anything under 3,000 lbs seems to be considered "lightweight" today. Heck, the last couple of generations of BMW roadsters (the last few years of Z3 and all of the Z4) are within a gnat's ass of 3K lbs.

The only new car I know of that is under one ton is the Lotus Elise. And the rumor mill says that Lotus will bring out a four-seater soon, which will weigh in at a "lightweight" 3,000 lbs...

Your point that the car is heavy is true, but that is when you judge against older cars. It's lighter than (or within a few pounds of) just about anything new you can currently buy.
