Unless you can either keep the exhaust valve open all the time, or both valves closed all the time, on the disabled cylinders, you'll lose power, but gain little to no mpg, as you won't save yourself much in the way of pumping losses.

Even better would be a way to alternate which cylinders fire, so that a selectable number (3, 4, 5 or 6) can fire on each cycle, randomly alternating to keep wear even.
