Both the two Chrysler test engineers unnecessarily redlined the engines when getting up to 70ph for the neutral coastdown and then they downshifted seriously overeving and blowing the engines. Chrysler paddle shifters work in the opposite direction of the edison2, racecar, bmw and motorcyle style shifters. Its believed they panicked when the red light came on, which was just telling them they hit the redline limiter. I don't know if the edison2 engine computer was designed cut the fuel with a bad shift but at those rpms it might have been damaged to quickly either way. Their 250cc engines were heavily modified with custom parts so they couldnt fix them in time to go to Argonne national labs.
