when you are forced to alter your plans and change your routes, the likely effect of the additional fuel spent comes into play and helps to decide the final outcome.

......you sometimes go further than necessary because you can get better MPGs going the longer route.

......you used to get into trouble for speeding tickets but now get griped at for going too slowly.
