Ha! - my dad and I did that on our HDi holiday bus this summer in Spain. Everyone else was just standing shaking their heads and we were trying to work out the size of the turbo and the make of the fuel pump. We had the engine cover off and various bits (the hand-removable ones) in pieces too...
