I would think his reasons were for clearance off roading. In Colorado rocks tend to eat fenders, most cut the bottoms off to keep them from snagging.

The 22R is a solid engine that was used in many vehicles. Parts are readily available. It's sorta like a 350, most that work on them have a few laying around. Kinda like saying i need parts for a metro on here
