Remember when the Feds started regulating emissions and mpgs on cars? Remember cat converter "test pipes"? What happened?

What happened is we got exponentially better fuel injected engines waaaaaay before we would have, had there been only market forces. I don't hear too many longing for the days of carburetors anymore.
