My heater is only 550W (Kill-a-Watt-oid says 519W), it was the only one I could find for my engine. It takes its sweet time, but that's much better than nothing. Won't help much on short notice, though
I did start wondering about adding a small (~5-10W) pump to help move the coolant into the engine block before it cools, and/or insulate the section between the heater and the block. The latter wouldn't be too hard if only I could get my hand that deep behind the engine
without lifting it out of the car
I guess the next step would be to find a small heater that
replaces the oil pan's drain plug.
