Price of fuel doesn't make a difference

According to the OP, fuel economy was important.

He's not gonna get anything like decent FE in a truck like that. Ever.

He hasn't got the truck yet, and it doesn't look like he really needs it at all.
It's the obvious moment to make someone reconsider the options.

Apparently, fuel is still far too cheap in the US to make (most) Americans come to their senses regarding their choice of cars.
The OP's thinking process does not have to be perfect. To change him, he still has to be here.

When I first saw the smart car, from Europe, it was diesel powered and was sold in Canada. I said to my son who spotted it with me in Pennsylvania I would get one. Three years later I gave up. I had put myself on their "list" online. Then Mercedes got involved etc. Next thing you know it's not the 85 MPG diesel powered car we had seen but the gas powered car being sold here. It sucked. It was overpriced and You were better off with a Civic. Supposedly the delay was due to meeting United States criteria. What a crock. Americans will look at what is presented and if it makes sense we will buy it.

I'm really into motorhomes. I'm from the United States.

We don't need higher fuel prices.

Well, since I'm into motorhomes, I look at all kinds of motorhomes.

Here's one, Look for poster EGN and his MAN motorhome 1/2 way down on the page. Fuel prices don't seem to be stopping him very much.

The link:
MAN 6x6 camper - Page 2 - Expedition Portal Forum

Everyone has his idea of what is appropriate. Some people are conservationists. Some are into big and powerful. The poster named EGN uses lots of fuel and he's where you are. If you read up on what EGN posts on that link, (there are a lot of them), you will see even he has limits. He seems to be aware of what a REAL FUEL GUZZLER is. Like using a MAN tank hauler/motorhome conversion uses too much fuel and he advises against it.

The Europeans are not lucky to have high fuel prices. Higher fuel prices here in the United States precipitated and predates the market crash. So we get crippled by inflationary fuel prices with no connection to supply and demand and the Europeans got creamed.

We can repeat it all over again thanks to stinking speculators (gov't will sit on its hands again) but you guys will be very unhappy.

While you are all worried about how much fuel we should be saving, countries like CHINA are not going to stop till they are king of the fuel usage hill.

For me, if I can get the motorhome up from 10 MPG to 12.5, I'll be very happy with the achievement. Heck, if I compare myself to my motorhoming buddies who have their fuel efficient diesel behemoths getting 6.5 to 7.5 MPG on diesel I wouldn't do anything. I can't get them to slow down no matter what I show them for evidence that they will get better MPG. They've got the money and they are going to spend it (or the heirs will). Price of fuel makes no difference to a lot of people who like to drive big things.
