Wow, I would think it would melt the paint off the hood if it was that hot and that close to the hood. Anyway, I don't think that there is a car sold in N. America that has the exhaust running anywhere close to the hood. I don't think I've ever driven aggressively enough to get the manifold red hot. Also, for some of us, trying to keep the car warm in the winter is hard. Cooling is almost a non issue. We were the second coldest place on the planet here last tuesday (colder than the north pole) and, even with plugging in, a full grill block, insulated belly pan, the factory hood insulation and pulling intake air from under the hood, it never got hot enough for the thermostat to open when I was running around town.
