I don't know about your car, but mine doesn't have fuel spraying all over. The cardboard isn't anywhere near anything that can heat it to the point of combustion either.

I guess my exhaust manifold heats up to about 1700 F so i might have more of a problem then you would. Just doesnt seem right to put cardboard in your engine bay.

I will share my most sacred top-secret hint with you and only you: Don't rest any cardboard on or near the exhaust manifold. Or spinning bits either.

LOL impossible the manifold sits about an inch away from the hood and some times it turns bright red...

On the next one I am going to ceramic coat it and wrap it as well. I am a firm believer in conserving all that heat energy. I guess we learn from our mistakes.

I've just become aware of the highly technical nature of this mod and regret not including this warning earlier: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FAB WUNNA THESE UP UNLESS YOU ARE AN ADVANCED MODDER!!! THE CONSEQUENCES OF FAILURE ARE SEVERE!!!

Wow, I would think it would melt the paint off the hood if it was that hot and that close to the hood. Anyway, I don't think that there is a car sold in N. America that has the exhaust running anywhere close to the hood. I don't think I've ever driven aggressively enough to get the manifold red hot. Also, for some of us, trying to keep the car warm in the winter is hard. Cooling is almost a non issue. We were the second coldest place on the planet here last tuesday (colder than the north pole) and, even with plugging in, a full grill block, insulated belly pan, the factory hood insulation and pulling intake air from under the hood, it never got hot enough for the thermostat to open when I was running around town.

That is great! I love the cardboard over the engine treatment. The hood insulation is a great idea. I am thinking about making an entire engine blanket out of that hood fiberglass insulation. What if the engine compartment could have most free areas filled with fire proof insulation allowing for air space by the exhaust and throught the radiator. It would be like hot water tank insulation! The engine would then only cool itself through the radiator and heater core. Of coures make it removable for driving in very hot weather.

The car would be quieter inside and perhaps the engine would stay warm for many hours after it is shut down. Hmmmm I think I will need to try this on my Edsel. Now where to find fire resistant insulation??? Formula413, I think I will need a lot of Firebird hood pads to try an experiment.

as you can see putting card board would be a death wish.

JEGS 'Quiet Ride' Ultra Sound Deadening / Heat Barrier Kits - JEGS

Try this on your hood and inner fenders.... tap and drill sheet metal pieces to the bottom of your subframe to close it all off....

JEGS Ultra Hi-Temp Exhaust Wrap - JEGS

use that to wrap around your engine block head and oil pan to keep all that heat in even more so...
