Hi Mike - welcome to the site.
We were going to stick a GE EV-1 controller in the ForkenSwift (came with the forklift from which we pilfered most of our EV parts). But the gurus of the EVDL persuaded me that a more modern controller would be best, and for the reason you gave.
So we're using a regular Curtis now.
