It's the 3-cyl engine for which the different EPA figures are being questioned, and it went unchanged for years. I have only seen one set of hp/torque figures published for the garden variety 3 (not counting the earlier XFi model).

The only thing left then is engine tune and believe me that makes a MASSIVE difference.
You would have to drop an image of a 97 and a 98 Metro ECU and have someone who knows the map compare the 2, if they IN REALITY get worse mileage not just on paper there has to be something done for pollution or tune, even exhaust can have an effect.
Anyway I don't believe in Unicorns or Magic, it just is doesn't fly there is a reason if it works out in reality.
