A 45 - 75 mph single speed? Forget the clutch and add a frewheel! Clutches get hot = inefficiency but are good for changing gears. You'd need to find a way to disengage the drive train for reversing (using elect only). Stopping on hills you'll have an auto anti-roll back (if the diesel won't turn backwards?) Single speed roller chain drive is SUPER efficient!

10 Hp isn't much even with the tiny car you have planned. Look up the punsun 20-25 hp from china. They are cheap and some guys put them into diesel motorcycles (they still aren't fast). They are also light for the rated HP (air cooled). Is the ICE motor capable of the RPM range you need for the speed range you need?

Sorry I reread and it seems you are planning a series hybrid so you need the clutch to disengage the ICE for EV only operation, right? I assume you are planning rear wheel chain drive? Wait, I think you could still put a freewheel between the ICE and drive train so even if the EV is turning the drivetrain the ICE doesn't have to turn... Unless you'd want to start the ICE with the E motor.

I've really wondered about putting two motors together on one drive train. It seems like a good way to manage loads to make an efficient hybrid but I suspect there are a lot of things to be careful of... I'd suggest to PM some of the hands on and mechanical minded guys like FrankLee or dcb or arragonis.
