Before you bother with mods, worry about changing your driving habits. I would guess your midpipe will have little, if any, affect on mileage once your driving habits have improved.

Check your tire pressure. Keep it at the max rated pressure (or higher if you feel comfortable with that) for best mileage.

Get an UltraGauge if you want to spend a little money to improve your mileage. That helped me more than anything.
