I think the best solution would be to take off the alternator belt because even if it's "off" the engine is still turning the belt which still wastes energy...

I think maybe you can eliminate the alternator and the belt out of the car if you have 2-3 batteries in the car and have a couple solar panels in the car and time to time charge up the batteries at home...

Also does anybody else ride in your car? Some people have cars that they exclusively use to commute to work and back or/and only drive by themselves. You could strip the entire car if that's the case. Carpet and everything..
