Depends on the gearing.
My fabia runs 70 mph with about 2200 rpm showing in 6th. Anything over 25 mph/1000 may mean you are OK to get it going but it will be buzzy at speed and less than optimal FE.
We could probably locate a DTI gearbox or final drive but transport may be an issue to the states to make it uneconomic. Maybe you could mate it to a TDI 'box available locally with an adaptor plate ? That would also mean local sources for clutch parts which would be convenient.
I'm afraid I don't know whether the DTI transmission got its long legs from the final drive or the box itself, sorry.
