The big economic problem is that it'll take a long time to pay off the difference between a used corolla/etc and a new Cruz Eco at ~$200 in savings per year (~12k all highway miles). When they've depreciated a fair bit in 5-10 years, then the higher mileage becomes more prominent, but until then anything that's well broken in and gets above 40mpg tends to be good enough.
