The GT-40 has lots of scoops and such because the air was needed for specific purposes. The large opening in the center front was for radiator air. The two smaller ones were for brake cooling air. The one in the middle of the front lid was radiator air exhaust. The ones on the "hips" I think were for rear brake or possibly transmission cooling. The ones above the middle/rear of the car on the top were induction air. And so on.
If they didn't need to use the air, chances are they wouldn't have openings for it.
