I don't know about the Lupo, but my clutch is hydraulic, so keeping the clutch plates apart while you push in the clutch requires power, and that power has to come from somewhere.

For a conventional manual car I don't think the clutch is "powered" so the only energy being used is your leg - you are pulling (cable) or pushing (hydraulic) against the spring. Holding it in for a long time increases wear on the thrust bearings though.
