I had the Escort version of that diesel...got 49 mpg with it....without trying too hard. That leak he's talking about is an o-ring and/or a bushing issue...not a big deal.
A warning about the battery...
keep a good one in it...if it gets down and you try to start it...you will fry the starter...not real cheap to replace. Also they have a vacuum pump for the brake booster. I used Bosch filters on mine...bypass and regular.
Use a little acetone in the diesel to stop the black smoke?
