I will copy many of the previous comments. Generally your ODO won't count until you key it back on.

Also, especially on a carb'd vehicle be sure your off time is at a minimum 30 seconds, less than that and it can be a waste, not because of fuel savings per seh but because of potential increased wear.

Even on my newer vehicles I try to use EOC when I know the coast time or off time is at least 30 seconds, less than that and its hard to determine if its saving anything.

Also of note many 4wd vehicles have major issues with EOC anyway, better check flat tow ability of your vehicle.
