Does the odometer click off miles when you are keyed off?

I will copy many of the previous comments. Generally your ODO won't count until you key it back on.

Also, especially on a carb'd vehicle be sure your off time is at a minimum 30 seconds, less than that and it can be a waste, not because of fuel savings per seh but because of potential increased wear.

Even on my newer vehicles I try to use EOC when I know the coast time or off time is at least 30 seconds, less than that and its hard to determine if its saving anything.

Also of note many 4wd vehicles have major issues with EOC anyway, better check flat tow ability of your vehicle.

Most cars of that era that still had carbs had a solenoid that shut off fuel to the idle circuit when you turned off the ignition. It was there to prevent dieseling and was called an "anti dieseling solenoid".

Now you may run into some enrichment on a restart but I don't think so (not positive about that).

If it has a speedometer cable it will work with the ignition off (mechanical drive, like my motorcycle)

I checked it on the way to work this morning. The odometer still turns while the ignition is off.

My car only operates in FWD when the 4WD is not selected. The lever uses a vacuum actuator to engage the differential in the transmission to engage the rear wheels. It is fine to roll in neutral.
