What if the alternator were on a switch, as some have suggested on this forum? Under sunny conditions with a car that draws less power in general and none for accessories, put the alternator on a clutch and let the panel maintain. Let the battery recharge while the car sits at work all day. Use the alternator if necessary. Maybe?
