Frankly (lol), accidents aren't a huge concern. Per unit of measure, a two or more vehicle accident is one of the least likely situations you'll encounter on a day to day basis, compare top the number of vehicles on the road, and the number of miles they operate per annum. Your more likely to get a flat, hit a bird in flight, etc.

Living based on the one possibility which couldn't even be called an eventuality is, imo, sheltering ones self. YMMV.
