I take it you never got into an accident? I also take it you drive with no seatbelt and your ABS disabled....you also popped out your air bags right...I mean why lug around all that extra fuel guzzling weight? You must also ride a motorcycle with no helmet on...since you live in a world where no accidents are a high probability.

I've done "accident" threads before so to avoid ripping your head off I'll just suggest you search for one of them- it's all laid out there.

Not gonna bother because I have also dealt with those who seem to think that their universe operates differently from that of the norm.

If you don't do the norm things the norm things don't apply to you, for example I don't drive when there are many if any other vehicles on the road. My environment is safer because of behavior and where I live, perhaps you should try living in my universe or perhaps Franks for a while so you aren't in constant fear of smacking into things.

Drive differently and your world will change.

Frankly (lol), accidents aren't a huge concern. Per unit of measure, a two or more vehicle accident is one of the least likely situations you'll encounter on a day to day basis, compare top the number of vehicles on the road, and the number of miles they operate per annum. Your more likely to get a flat, hit a bird in flight, etc.

Living based on the one possibility which couldn't even be called an eventuality is, imo, sheltering ones self. YMMV.

My dad's fully laden 10t GVW truck - a real truck, not a pick-up - once got rear-ended while stopped. It felt like he got hit by a pack of butter.

The car that went in was a total write-off, putting a small dent in the truck's round bumper bar and chafing off some paint.
That's the power of inertia !

I race cars, I also ski race. Call that sheltered....far from it. Do I plan on getting into an accident, no. Do I take every possible precaution necessary should it occur to survive and not be a vegetable, you bet. Anything less is arrogance and ignorance. Not only will your life be horrible or over, think more importantly of those you may affect or leave behind....dont be selfish.

Right it is obviously not selfish to use 4x the fuel I do to armor yourself from harm and increase the possibility of harming others?

And no I have not been in an accident over the last 15 years and million+ miles
(yes I did drive a lot when I ran a concession booth)

If I may state some facts. Most ecomodders drive below the speed limit with enough following distance to coast to a stop if needed. This seems like safer driving than how most people drive.

So why not think of the person you're going to kill because of the accident you got into while you were driving your arrogantly oversized "Safe" SUV? Imagine for a second that because of the energy transfer that occurs between a larger and smaller vehicle during a frontal impact, the person driving the smaller vehicle dies, or becomes a vegetable, all for your extra 1,000 lbs of "safety"... now who's being selfish?

It's a balancing act, surely, between what's selfish,and what's overdoing it.
