Having owned one straight Peugeot and owning a Peugeot-powered Volvo, I really can not and will not vouch for their reliability, quite to the contrary. Despite proper - and often expensive - dealer maintenance, engine related problems keep popping up.

I won't buy any car with PSA (Peugeot - Citroen) components anymore.
Euro - Doesn't the V50 have a PSA HDI ?

However I've highlighted your problem above. Peugeot dealers are second only to Volvo ones for dishonesty and Alfa Romeo ones for just being plain useless. Find a Bosch service centre and they can sort anything in one go.
