Maybe they have an uncle who is the sheik of Araby. Or an OPEC honcho. Or maybe they are heavily invested in oil stocks.
But that would be assuming they have a motive of rational self interest. Probably not.
More likely they want the economy to slow down to a standstill, as some form of punishment or retribution. And that is usually a knee-jerk response, in support of a party line, political ideology.
