The Honda Fit is a great car -- my brother (who is 6'-6") drives a 2010 in place of his Tacoma and he finds it great for all but the largest loads. He still has the truck, but he drives the Fit almost all the time.

You can probably do 40+ by ecodriving alone. If you do some aeromods (like an upper grill block, or rear wheel skirts, or smooth wheel covers), then you could well get closer to 50MPG.
