There is a cheaper alternative... I've seen valve stem caps at Wal-Mart that will change color if your tire is running low. Sure, you actually have to get outside your car and visually check them, and they won't tell you if your tires are over-inflated, but even though I don't remember the specific price, I'm sure they are a lot cheaper than a TPMS.
