I like my vehicles to last as long as possible and to need as little work done as possible, when I was running a K&N filter in my motorcycles I would clean and rebuild the carbs every year and clean a ton of dirt out of them, then I ended up with a motorcycle that I couldn't get a ridged filter like that to fit so I bought a set of foam air filters and noticed that the carbs were not needing to be cleaned and rebuilt as often so I switched to foam air filters on a few more of my motorcycles and found the same thing to be true, less dirt was getting past the filter so the carb was cleaner and not clogging up as quickly, my current motorcycle is a Honda CB125, with only 12hp it's easy to compare power output so a few years back I put a digital bicycle speedometer on it so I could clock the true top speed and with ABA testing done on the same day, same stretch of road the foam filter gave me the same top speed within half a mph.
