Question Quick question about air filters

Just filled up the tank on the fit for the second time and replaced the old dirty air filter with a k&n. Does anyone know if this could potentially harm my mpg by making the ecu think the motor needs more fuel because it has more air? mo

highly unlikely, the restriction caused by air filters is so minimal that the ECU will likely not even notice a difference

Buy the K&N. Being cleanable it helps relieve trash in the landfill every time you need a new filter. This way you just clean the filter instead. Good idea on buying one even if there isn't a difference in FE. But a motor that is more efficient needs less throttle body open time to sustain rolling.

You will suck in more dirt with a K&N. My K&N-equipped Civic's intake tube has a layer of dust in it that wasn't there with a paper filter.

Hmm, I didn't think about that. I wonder if that could cause engine damage over the long term?

I like my vehicles to last as long as possible and to need as little work done as possible, when I was running a K&N filter in my motorcycles I would clean and rebuild the carbs every year and clean a ton of dirt out of them, then I ended up with a motorcycle that I couldn't get a ridged filter like that to fit so I bought a set of foam air filters and noticed that the carbs were not needing to be cleaned and rebuilt as often so I switched to foam air filters on a few more of my motorcycles and found the same thing to be true, less dirt was getting past the filter so the carb was cleaner and not clogging up as quickly, my current motorcycle is a Honda CB125, with only 12hp it's easy to compare power output so a few years back I put a digital bicycle speedometer on it so I could clock the true top speed and with ABA testing done on the same day, same stretch of road the foam filter gave me the same top speed within half a mph.

K&N filters don't improve FE or increase HP. They only lighten your wallet.
