I don't hate K&N filters. It's a well-made product that trades some filtration for a slight increase in airflow. Whether or not that increase in airflow will increase power depends on the rest of the intake system. If the OEM filter isn't the most restrictive part, then all you're getting is more dirt. I'd use one if I was building a race car for a class that required keeping the original airbox and I wanted to get the most air I could. Otherwise, I'd rather make a bigger paper filter and/or airbox fit.
Maybe I love K&N filters. I find them at the junkyard, take them home, clean and oil them, and get $20-$30 on eBay for them.
