I've got a coworker with a 2011 V6 Escape, and even though he's not a very efficient driver, he's getting 20 - 21 mpg on his daily commute, which is about 60/40 city/highway with traffic. Not bad at all for an SUV. Given a more efficient driver, it could probably do a good bit better, and the I4 version is probably worth a couple more mpg.
