in reference to the apparent inability to change oil too often:

while working at sears I spoke with a technician for mobile 1 who suggested the changing oil too early in the oil life cycle could be detrimental to the engine, as the additive package in the oil may not have had time to become fully active, suggesting that over the life cycle of an oil change initially the engine wears more, through the life cycle it begins to wear less, until a certain peak is reached, at which point it wears more again.

a graphic showing this trend would appear sort of like a dyno sheet, where in the horsepower curve was actually displaying the wear resistance of a specific oil service cycle, which peaks at some point beyond half of its life then quickly drops off, indicative of more wear to an engine.
