This is great news. The Fiesta is already a great little car, but a little more thirsty than it could be. An Ecoboost 1.0 3-cyl will answer half the problem. The other half is the gears. If they get it running less then the current 2700 rpm @ 60 mph, it would use less gas. The current 1.6 5-speed is good for 65 mpg on the highway, but only if you do maximum P&G driving. Better gears would make that number possible with less work.
