Article: Quebec may ban "zoom zoom" car ads

Along similar lines as the European country (be damned if I can find the link at the moment - Denmark?) that recently outlawed auto advertising that carried claims of "environmental friendliness", the province of Quebec is looking at restricting auto advertising that glorifies speed.

Quebec spells doom to 'zoom zoom zoom'
Car ads glorifying speed to be targeted

The Quebec government will move to ban advertising that sell cars as sporting goods and that glorify speed.

Transport Minister Julie Boulet proposed an amendment to the highway safety bill yesterday that will give the provincial auto insurance board a mandate to come up with guidelines to ban ads that depict "heedless, careless or dangerous behaviour and gestures."

Boulet said the Société de l'assurance automobile du Quebec would work with advertisers, road safety experts and car makers to come up with guidelines to supervise the advertising.
