Tranny. $550. Jdm hx cvt low miles I would have to drive 2 hours to get it..

My question is should I do this or wait till I can find a manual hx or vx?

Do you think this is a sweet deal? And how much of a difference in MPG from cvt to manual?
Your hypermile possibilities are what are most limited by the transmission, and best facilitated by the manual trans. What kind of "work" does it need on the transmission? Is the current trans a manual? You might buy the car and carefully go over the transmission... maybe the "work" is far simpler than the seller imagines?

I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.
