Edit: Making progress with the plans, but now I'm starting to wonder how far forward I should make the new [horizontal] lower lip extend. Would .5" (1.27cm) suffice? Subtle and functional are my goals, not sporty.

The dam will extend 3" lower than current. Plus, I intend to overlap it .5" with the existing dam to screw it in. So the material width will be 3.5" plus the size of the horizontal splitter section.
