OK, another Middle America story. My neighbor's kid - mid-20s, high-school grad, but just barely - moved back there (Iowa, I think, but most of it is much of a muchness to me) a couple of years ago, to get into an apprenticeship program for electric linemen. Spent a while putting up wind turbines, now apparently working on power lines. When he's on storm duty, which has been happening a lot lately, he gets paid close to $5K a week. Just bought a house, for IIRC about $40K, with payments under $300/month...
