You can't tell how safe a car is by measuring and weighing it.
You need to crash 'm for that.

What was the effect on the passengers of that additional 1" crush ?
That's what counts, not how far it was pushed in !

If Hyundai designed it to crush 1" more to reduce the forces on the occupants, that would be GOOD rather than bad.

My Volvo is designed to crush sideways - SIPS - so the sides are very thick, crumple a lot in a crash, but will give a good chance of survival.
