Both Cars got good crash test ratings
***** 5 stars.
Small area of weakness is the Sonatas side impact cage crushed in an inch further then the cruzes. But they were both rated excellent.

So wich car would you put your kid in or mom if you knew that it would be impacted on a side crash or rear end crash.. I know morbid question but I need to know.

Im confused that the cruze scored better but is smaller. Or in the real world does weight and length matter more then the tests would suggest

...which do you 'trust' more, the 10 GM-imported airbags or Hyundai-imported airbags?

I have my wife in a 06 Navigator, 4000+lbs and lots of airbags. I myself drive very defensively in a 91 Metro.

I'd suggest crash avoidance on the road, but wear a helmet to the shower as that is where you're most likely to wipe out.

Whichever one you can get with a stick is safer. It'll keep the driver engaged, keeping his attention on the task at hand. And good luck holding a cell phone while rowing through the gears.

You can't tell how safe a car is by measuring and weighing it.
You need to crash 'm for that.

What was the effect on the passengers of that additional 1" crush ?
That's what counts, not how far it was pushed in !

If Hyundai designed it to crush 1" more to reduce the forces on the occupants, that would be GOOD rather than bad.

My Volvo is designed to crush sideways - SIPS - so the sides are very thick, crumple a lot in a crash, but will give a good chance of survival.

At the time the 11 Sonata came out, it and the 5 series BMW were the ONLY ones with a 5 star crash rating. Go ahead and pick up a manual GLS, you'll love it!

11 Sonata is equipped with bluetooth, so calls are handled through the stereo and activated by a button on the wheel. Never have to touch the phone while driving, which lets you row all you like.

...ah, but divided-attention is *still* less than 100%-attention (wink, wink).

...I "ban" all cell phones in my car. If it's *that* important to call or speak to someone, it's likewise important enough to stop and give full attention to the person on the other end of that damn "digital-leash" cell-phone!
