Yeah I have the same situation as FastPlastic and the gauge does turn off occasionally after repeated short trips but 95% of the time it comes on when the vehicle is started and stays on. Also a quick press of the power button brings it to life if it does go out, then it stays on for the duration of the trip. Thanks for the compliments, and sorry I didn't respond sooner, I've been working ridiculous hours and prepping for tests.
