Congratulations. I advanced the timing too. It seemed to help me. Very modest advance: 2* maybe. Everyone warns about spark wear and such... so keep an eye on odd firing (knock and ping and such). BTW, what do you mean, though, when you say you pulled the start cable? You disabled the starter motor? I don't understand.
