GM's Tahoe SUV hybrid ad claims better MPG than Camry*

GM has been pushing their Tahoe hybrid pretty hard, if full-page colour ads in national newspapers are any indication.

Today's caught my eye for the comparison to the Camry based on FE*.

Of course the *asterix at the end of the sentence reveals the comparison is to the V6 Camry.

The ad doesn't state whether this is highway, city or combined FE, which is a deceptive omission, IMO. The source of the "fuel economy ratings" isn't given either.

So I head to NRCan web site to see what it has to say - and... nope, there's no FE data for the Tahoe hybrid posted yet.

Off to the EPA/fueleconomy.gov site, where I learn:

Camry V6 ........ 19 city / 28 hwy / 22 combined
Tahoe hybrid ... 20 city / 20 hwy / 20 combined

So! Definitely selective, and deceptive. Nice work, GM! Way to get people on side!

I do have to say though I'd be happy to see more automakers fighting publicly about who's more efficient. GM's going to have to try a bit harder than that, however. That was just weak.
