PS slightly to the post above. Today I had a meeting in exactly the same place as a meeting last week. Last week I managed an instrument AVG reading of 55 to the place and about 68 on the way back. Today it was still 55 on the way there but only 55 on the way back. Why ?
Well we have the back end of a hurricane passing over us and this journey was not fun - A lightweight little hatch in the strong wing meant constant steering to keep to the chosen lane. This was something several trucks didn't manage so I decided not to pass any and just stay put. Heavy rain also meant use of demister and headlights which can't have helped, but overall the wind has claimed a lot of fuel to pass through it. P&G was a waste really - pulse and then gale sized wind so back where I started straight away.
I still have a lot to learn about motorway (aka "Highway" driving with George though. Gearing is OK - I think - 70 is around 3.2K. He will happily cruise at 80 or even 90 (except on hills) but getting the best MPG is proving tricky. At lower speeds around town I've had trip averages in the mid 70s. He will take 3rd at 60 though
