I find talking cold hard cash saved tends to quieten them down. MPG tends to give them little other than raised eyebrows and a "jaysus!" look on their face. But when i say i spend 20 euro per week and get three weeks and 800 miles per tank they tend to listen. I even managed to get a co worker to start logging his (with huge wheels!) 520d mpg!
I carpooled with a lad once and he was very apprehensive about how long it would take to get to work. He also started logging his mpg when he saw that we got to work in more or less the same time!
Hypermiling is like a pink shirt. It takes a real man to wear it!
